SMI (Single Moms Inspired) was founded in 2012 by Yvonne. She is a rose who grew from concrete. She is a mother of four daughters and a grandmother of one granddaughter and one grandson. Yvonne is a mentor, teacher, author, preacher, and pastoral counselor.
Yvonne believes, with God's strength, anything is possible!
Black single mothers face many unique challenges. However, she demonstrates remarkable strength and resilience that can become tiresome. She often navigates systemic barriers such as racial discrimination, economic instability, and limited access to quality healthcare and education. Despite these obstacles, Black single mothers like you and I, consistently display extraordinary courage to keep moving forward to provide for our families and foster support for our community.
I am a Black Single Mother to 4 daughters who did life alone. I understand why the data keeps rising since 2018- 2020. There were 4.04 million single mothers in 2018. Whereas 3.4 million were Black single mothers. (Statista.com) Currently U.S. Census Bureau reports, as of 2020, approximately 64% of Black children live in single-parent households, the majority headed by single mothers. This is significantly higher compared to the overall national average of 23% for all children This number is steadily climbing due to our current economy. Hence, this leaves the single mother in poverty and facing incredible work/life balance issues.
With those tremendous numbers, My focus is to advocate for single mothers while aiding you holistically as you overcome the issues, LIFE can bring. In turn, my goal for you, if you desire, is to mentor you on how to navigate LIFE as a Black Single Mamma, further your education, create a monetary budget, gain home ownership.
As you redevelop your life from the inside out, you will feel and see how your life is making a positive change!
Yvonne promises to be there for each woman.
Yvonne is going to do her best to walk alongside each woman on their journey if that is the woman's choice.
Yvonne's ultimate goal is to help each woman grow through their life's extremes, accomplish their life goals, and remind them, "it's a process."
As an outcome, each woman will be able to pay forward what they have learned while becoming all that God purposed her to be.
The Whole Truth: A Talk with God is a collection of devotionals I wrote between the ages of 33 and 37. Each devotional will activate within you the urge to pray and journal more; and help you understand that God is not a one stop and does not fit inside our rigid religious box.
Written from the perspective of a Black single mother (myself), these devotionals reveal how talking to God empowered me to lean on Scripture, which enabled me to press through some moments I didn't think I could manage. But now that I have seen the righteous forsaken and God's seed begging for bread, my perspective has expanded. I see a deplorable socioeconomic society that would rather see a Black single mother sink than swim. Nevertheless, the God I serve not only listens attentively to our pleas, but also guides us on a path to gain the resources we need to pull up our bootstraps,
